Girl reading

This is one of my early pen and ink drawings, created as the basis for a Christmas card. It was inspired by one of Pablo Picasso's blue period oils and was modelled on my daughter, Karen, who is now the mother of four fully grown up people of her own.

Well, Christmas has been and gone but will come again, and we can all keep reading!

Reading fiction is a necessary salvation for so many. In times of stress we can pick up a book and take ourselves into some other place. Not necessarily better or worse than our own reality, but different and therefore the provider of a perspective on our own lives and the lives of those around us.
